We are currently offering up to a $5,000 sign-on bonus for Heavy Equipment Field Service Technician new hires. $2,500 is payable after 90 days of employment, and the remaining $2,500 is payable after 180 days of employment.

Job Title: Field Service Technician
Location: Salem, Virginia
Shift: 1st
Starting Compensation Range: $26.88 - $39.07 per hour
Minimum of three years' relevant heavy equipment field experience is required to be eligible for the $5,000 sign-on bonus. Candidates with less than 3 years' heavy equipment field experience are eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus. Bonuses are made in 2 equal installments at 90 days and 180 days of employment.
What You Will Do:
- Apply expert level troubleshooting techniques and determine proper repair procedures on all assigned work orders.
- Service, diagnose and repair/rebuild all engine/components regardless of model/maker of equipment, including electrical, computers, and monitors at customer's jobsite.
- Disassemble, inspect and determine parts needed. Reassemble to factory specifications.
- Interact with customers and answer repair-related questions as required. Refer non-repair related questions to supervisor.
- Perform heavy electrical and computer repairs.
- Interpret and utilize information from operating, maintenance and service manuals/bulletins.
- Inspect components removed from machines to determine their reusability.
- Prepare parts requisitions, parts returns, accurate and complete service reports, and other necessary reports and forms.
- Clearly and concisely document all work and repairs completed in a timely manner.
- Maintain work area, tools and equipment to promote a clean and safe environment.
- Perform various other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of four years' experience repairing heavy construction equipment preferred.
- Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing expert level mechanical repairs.
- High school diploma or GED required
- Thorough knowledge of engines, transmissions, electrical and other related components to troubleshoot and analyze unique and high level problems/issues quickly and improvise using logic and critical thinking skills to make needed repairs.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to repair Caterpillar and competitive components and machines.
- Excellent driving record and the ability to obtain a CDL.
- Ability to become DOT certified with DOT Medical Card.
- Willingness to work any shift and overtime as needed to meet business and customer demands.
- Strong communication with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Self-direction and well organized.
- Proficient use of technical software, databases and manuals.
- Demonstrating ability to learn and apply new knowledge.
- Working independently and part of a team.
- Prioritizing workload while providing excellent customer service.
- Interacting with customers on a professional level.
- Performing well in a fast-paced work environment.
