Position: Vehicle Registration Technician I

Salary Information

$15.91 per hour at Step 1.

Job Responsibilities
  • Trains on all types of motor vehicle transactions.
  • Becomes knowledgeable of Kansas statutes and KDOR policies and procedures pertaining to registration and renewals.
  • Works with customers in a courteous and professional manner to provide necessary information and paperwork for processing vehicle title and registration applications, corrections, refunds, lien releases, registration renewals, and other Tag Office duties.
  • Performs telephone reception and provides information relevant to vehicle registration and licensing.
  • Performs daily filing and general office duties such as sorting and processing mail, assisting with inventory control, and providing needed correspondence to customers.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of transactions involving cash, checks, credit/debit cards and online payments; balances cash drawer daily and resolves discrepancies.
  • Assists other Technicians as needed and in preparing tax statements for mailing.
  • Collects tax payments received by mail and processes them appropriately.
  • Enters delinquent personal property taxes into the State’s Motor Vehicle System.
  • Occasionally works in other County offices, collecting delinquent personal property taxes for other Counties and mailing payments to that County.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and practices.
  • Must be able to type accurately.
  • Basic computer skills desirable.
  • Must be able to work with the public and co‑workers in a congenial manner.
  • High‑volume customer service skills desirable.
  • Must have successfully completed KDOR MOVRS Training and certification.
  • Must successfully complete all required KDOR online training and security awareness.
  • Must complete online customer service‑related training as assigned by the County Treasurer.
Physical Requirements

Level 1 Sedentary Work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. Mostly sitting with occasional walking or standing.

To be successful, the expectation is that a candidate will be able to competently perform the routine tasks of the position with limited supervision by the end of the probationary period of covered positions.
