Position Overview

This position is primarily accountable for Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) Quality Assurance testing in an assigned geographic area as well as testing Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) and soils as required.

Essential Functions
  • Performs Quality Assurance testing of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) mixtures.
  • Performs and reports inspection of Portland Cement Concrete (PCC), soils, aggregates, and other construction materials as needed.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with contractors and other Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) personnel assigned to construction projects.
  • Responsible for proper use, calibration, and maintenance of testing equipment.
  • Responsible for completeness and accuracy of test data, reports, data entry, and other record keeping.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering, or a job-related technical/science curriculum plus thirty months of engineering experience or six years of engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of mathematics.
  • Skill in the use of laboratory testing equipment and engineering field and office instruments.
  • Good oral and or written communication skills.
Conditions of Employment
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Daily travel within the assigned area; overnight travel may be required.
  • Successful completion of a background screening.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions imposed by 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position.
