Machinist II is responsible for setting up, programming, operating, and maintaining both CNC and manual machining equipment to manufacture and repair components used in the production of road paving equipment. This position requires the ability to work independently from blueprints and drawings, perform program modifications, maintain tolerances, and produce high quality parts in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.
Essential Functions- Set up and operate CNC and manual machine tools to manufacture production and one-off components.
- Create and modify machining programs for new and existing parts. (G-code and conversational programming)
- Revise existing programs to accommodate engineering changes and part revisions.
- Calculate appropriate feeds, speeds, tooling selections, and cutting parameters based on material and machining requirements.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.

- Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring equipment (calipers, Micrometers, bore gauges, indicators, etc.)
- Troubleshoot machine issues and make process adjustments to improve quality and efficiency.
- Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move materials and finished components.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Work closely with engineering, fabrication, and production personnel to support manufacturing operations.
- Follow all company safety policies and quality standards.
- Carries out other duties and responsibilities as assigned to meet business and operational needs.
- 1-3 years machine shop with CNC machines or equivalent technical training/certification generally required. High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as job orders, procedure manuals, and schematics (blueprints).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain good attendance.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate detailed information to co-workers, management, vendors, suppliers, and customers.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to interact in a positive and professional manner to develop and maintain strong working relationships with co-workers, management, suppliers, and customers.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
