The principal duties of the Shop Lead are as follows:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Obtain work from Operations Manager. Assign work out to support the shop schedule.
- Provide written tie-ins at the end of shift on all machines
- Ensures that safe work practices are followed and adhered.
- Do any other task assigned by the Operations Manager.
- Advise the Operations Manager daily on the lead times necessary for new work.
- Train new CNC Operators and where necessary upgrade the skill level of the more seasoned Machinists.
- Perform regular performance reviews on all employees reporting to the Shop Lead. Also perform incident or disciplinary write-ups as necessary
- When not involved with oversight or supervisory duties perform all the duties of a CNC Operator. Shop Lead is a "working" supervisor.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area and maintains all equipment, to like new appearance, according to maintenance plans and established procedures. Ensure that the work area is free of clutter.
- Monitors all daily 6S Shop Clean Ups at End of Shift and assures they are being performed.
- Assist with other shop operations when requested.
- Assist CNC Operators with difficult jobs.
- Supports metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing, using knowledge of machine functions, metal properties, and mathematics.
- Sets up, adjusts, or operates machine tools used to perform precision machining operations to customer specifications.
- Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines per Aerotech setup instructions.
- Diagnoses machine tool malfunctions to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
- Measures, examines, or tests completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments, such as micrometers and calipers
- Monitors the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
- Maintains machine tools are in proper operational condition.
- Studies sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information to determine methods or sequences of operations needed to fabricate products.
- Confers with engineering, supervisory, or manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.
- Disposes of scrap or waste material in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations.
