Job Summary - We are hiring a skilled and detail-oriented Concrete Finisher to join our construction crew. This role is responsible for placing, finishing, and repairing concrete on a variety of job sites including foundations, slabs, sidewalks, curbs, and more. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience with concrete work, a solid understanding of construction techniques, and a commitment to producing high‑quality finishes.
*** This position is with a travel concrete crew. Crew members will meet at our shop location in Carlisle, IA and drive in company vehicles together to the job sites. Employees will leave on Sunday evenings or Monday mornings and will typically return for the weekend. Employees may be subject to work weekends as needed.***
Key Responsibilities -
- Set and align concrete forms for sidewalks, curbs, pads, and slabs
- Pour, spread, and level concrete using rakes, shovels, and screeds
- Smooth and finish surfaces using hand tools (trowels, floats, edgers, jointers)
- Apply textures or surface treatments as specified (broom finish, stamped, etc.)
- Monitor weather conditions and adjust finishing techniques accordingly
- Cut control joints and edges for proper expansion and appearance
- Cure surfaces using appropriate compounds and methods
- Ensure quality control, proper thickness, slope, and surface integrity
- Read and interpret blueprints or drawings as needed
- Maintain tools and equipment in clean, working order
- Cleaning and inspecting surfaces for pouring issues.
- Directing the casting of the concrete with the truck driver.
- Safely operating power vibrator to ensure the concrete is compacted.
- Molding and constructing expansion joints using joiners and edging tools.
- Polishing surface using a power surfacing machine.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements -
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - 2+ years of concrete finishing experience preferred
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Strong knowledge of concrete tools, techniques, and materials
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
- Comfortable with standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 75 lbs
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work well in a team
- Ability to work long hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed.
- Must be willing to travel overnight when projects are outside the local area.
