Truck Driver – Trainee Job Duties
- Perform general duties related to roadwork, including flagging traffic, trimming trees, cutting brush, mowing right‑of‑ways, replacing bridge planks, assisting in concrete work, and supporting asphalt work and preparation for asphalt work. May be assigned to clean up yards and/or shop buildings. Operate mower tractors, front‑end loaders, skid steers, and power tools such as chain saws, weed whips, and hand tools.
- Perform preventative maintenance. Once a Class A CDL is obtained, opportunities for other duties and equipment will open.
- Must complete the Saline County Commercial Truck Driving Program administered by Saline County Road & Bridge within six (6) months of employment and obtain a Class A CDL with air brakes, standard transmission, combination vehicle, and tanker endorsements.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class C Driver License.
- Insurable under Saline County fleet insurance policy.
- Ability to work independently.
- Must be able to perform work most of the time in hot or cold conditions.
Determined Work Level: Level 4 Heavy Work. The position will accept applicants at Level 3.5 who can exert forces in excess of 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, or 20 pounds constantly. Must possess sufficient eye/hand/foot coordination to drive a vehicle, use leg and foot controls on machinery, and have fine and gross manual dexterity for hand tools and equipment. Ability to bend the body downward and forward, bending the spine at the waist, and to see clearly at least 20 feet.
