Position OverviewUnder the general direction of the area dean, the nurse educator is responsible for instruction in the registered and vocational nursing programs. Classroom, learning lab, and clinical courses are scheduled at any of the college’s campuses and clinical sites during the day, evening, or weekend hours and may include teaching in person, hybrid or online. In addition to supervising and evaluating student learning, the nurse educator participates in student advisement, curricular design, and college governance.
The nurse educator demonstrates clinical skills appropriate to the practice setting and provides appropriate clinical experiences and student supervision to meet student learning and program objectives. The nurse educator functions as a role model and mentor.
- Coordinate, plan, organize, and instruct lecture, lab, and skills courses, including collaborative and team teaching.
- Develop and revise curriculum, using computer and advanced technologies in instruction, and maintain currency in the field.
- Offer student advising and assistance.
- Prepare course materials, provide effective teaching methodologies, and give critical feedback on assignments and discussion.
- Create and file syllabi for each course, ensuring conformity with curriculum requirements and instructional currency.
- Recommend textbooks, instructional materials, and laboratory equipment to the dean.
- Evaluate and grade student work promptly, keeping students informed of progress.
- Maintain and report accurate scholastic records, including attendance.
- Participate in program and curriculum review and development.
- Assess student learning and program‑level outcomes, and use results to improve teaching and learning.
- Hold office hours for student consultations.
- Participate in student recruitment and articulation programs.
- Participate in faculty recruitment and peer evaluation.
- Collaborate in department, college, and discipline‑specific activities.
- Serve on committees and engage in professional activities and organizations.
- Attend faculty meetings, assemblies, professional development, and orientation activities as called by senior leadership.
- Effective collaboration with colleagues in an innovative teaching environment serving a diverse student population.
- Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds with varied skills, motivations, and goals.
- Participation in a participatory governance environment.
- Curriculum development across multiple modalities.
- Recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, universities, and health care partners.
- Effective oral and written communication.
- Maintaining subject matter currency and clinical competencies.
- Development and assessment of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs).
- Use of technology in instruction and openness to new technologies.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the California Community College mission.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to student diversity and community backgrounds.
- Master’s degree in nursing; or
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing plus a master’s degree in health education or health science; or
- Recognized master’s or higher degree that includes coursework in nursing, education, or administration combined with direct patient‑care experience within the previous five years in the nursing area, at least one year of full‑time clinical care or clinical teaching experience, and at least one year of teaching experience related to registered nursing or a post‑baccalaureate course that includes practice teaching.
A current California Board of Registered Nursing License is required.
Preferred: Psychiatric Mental Health Experience.
Conditions of EmploymentFull‑time, tenured‑track nursing faculty position beginning Fall 2026.
Starting faculty salary range: $120,428 to $133,218 annually based on 195 days per academic year, commensurate with verified education and teaching experience.
