Position: Para educator (Chalone Peaks Middle), Special Education, PC #2093 *Internal Applicants Only

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Principal, the Para educator performs various duties assisting teachers in the overall support of instructional activities for students enrolled in special education moderate/severe programs and/or mainstream classrooms.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent AND at least two (2) years of higher education study (48 semester units) OR possession of an Associate’s or higher degree. Must be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge and ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics.

Experience: Prior job‑related experience, paid or voluntary, with school‑age children or children/individuals with disabilities.

Licenses and

Certifications:

Valid California Driver’s License with proof of insurability;
First Aid; MCOE Crisis Intervention Program within six (6) months; CPR certification within six (6) months;
Program for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing – ability to pass MCOE sign language test within six (6) months.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Coursework in education, psychology, child development, classroom behavior management, or Early Childhood Education.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities and implementing behavioral management plans.
Benefits
  • $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators working in the DHH program with proficiency in sign language, as certified by MCOE.
  • $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators with proficiency in Braille and working in a position eligible for this incentive.
  • $150 per month incentive for Specialized Health Care Procedures if assigned to specific students and trained by MCOE.
  • $500 annual training incentive to employees who volunteer to participate in training for certification and willingness to administer emergency medications/procedures.
Additional Information

All foreign transcripts must be evaluated by a third party to determine U.S. degree equivalency; the evaluation must be attached to the application.
