Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor and guidance of the Pre‑school Lead Teacher, Teacher, or Master Teacher, the Assistant Teacher works as a member of a teaching team to promote active learning by planning and implementing developmentally appropriate experiences and by creating an environment in which birth‑through‑five‑year‑old children can experiment, make choices, solve problems and share their experiences with others;
he/she assists in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly classroom environment.
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences for children birth‑through‑five‑year‑old.
- Create and maintain a safe, clean, and orderly classroom environment.
- Collaborate with the teaching team to facilitate child learning.
- Support the lead teacher in delivering curriculum and instructional activities.
- Assist in the administration of emergency medication as required by state and federal regulations.
- Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Eligibility for a valid Child Development Assistant Permit from the State of California.
- Completion with a grade C or better of at least six (6) semester units of college coursework in early childhood education or child development from the following core areas:
- Child/human growth and development
- Child, family and community, or child and family relations
- Early Childhood Education curriculum
- Licenses and
Certifications:- Valid California Driver’s License and proof of insurability.
- CPR Certification appropriate for the age level of assignment within six (6) months of employment.
- Passing score on the MCOE Spanish Language Competency Test.

- Proof of high‑school graduation
- Resume
- Experience with supervising preschool activities and instruction.
- Experience working with special needs children.
- Invitation‑only testing on Tuesdays/Wednesday.
- Brief, verbal Spanish speaking test required.
Assistant teachers in the Early Learning Program (Head Start) shall be entitled to a stipend of $100 for each month they perform administration of medication for a student. This position is grant‑funded and the grant is expected to end 6/30/2027.
CompensationPay Range: $17.73 - $22.63 per hour.
