Under the general direction of the Principal, the Bilingual Para educator supports teachers in instructional activities for students enrolled in special education moderate/severe programs and/or mainstream classrooms.
Salary: $24.33 – $31.43 per hour.
Employment Type:
Full Time.
Work Year:
Monday – Friday, 6 hours per day, 183 days per year.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of higher education study (48 semester units), or an associate’s degree or higher. Must demonstrate knowledge and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics through a formal state or local academic assessment.
Job‑related experience:
Paid or voluntary experience with school‑age children or children with disabilities.
Knowledge:
First Aid, universal health precautions, strong English and Spanish oral and written communication skills.
Licenses and
Certifications:
Valid California driver’s license with evidence of insurability;
First Aid certification; CPR certification. Within six (6) months of employment complete the MCOE Crisis Intervention Program and maintain valid certification. Within six (6) months of employment pass the MCOE sign language test for the Program for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. Pass the MCOE Spanish Language Competency Test to demonstrate proficiency in Spanish.

This bilingual position requires passing an MCOE bilingual skills test. Testing is by invitation only on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Pay incentives include:
- $150 per month for Paraeducators working in the DHH program with proficiency in sign language, as certified by MCOE.
- $150 per month for Paraeducators with proficiency in Braille and working in a qualifying position.
- $150 per month for Paraeducators assigned to specialized health care procedures and trained by MCOE.
- $500 annual training incentive for employees who volunteer for certification training and are willing to administer emergency medications/procedures as defined by contract.
All foreign transcripts must be evaluated by a CTC‑approved agency to determine the equivalent U.S. degree and major. The foreign transcript evaluation must be attached to the application before it will be considered.
