Para educator (Vista Verde Middle School), Special Education, PC #2168 at Monterey County Office Of Education

Under the general direction of the Principal, the Para educator performs a variety of duties assisting teachers in the overall support of instructional activities for students who are enrolled in special education moderate/severe programs and/or mainstream classrooms.

• Education and Experience:
  
  (1) High school diploma or equivalent AND two (2) years of higher education study (48 semester units) OR possession of an Associate’s or higher degree OR ability to meet a rigorous standard of quality and to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics.
• Prior job-related experiences, paid or voluntary, with school-age children or children/individuals with disabilities.

  Certifications:
  • Valid California Driver’s License with evidence of insurability.
  • First Aid.
  • Complete approved MCOE Crisis Intervention Program within six (6) months of employment and maintain valid certification.
  • CPR Certification within six (6) months of employment.
  • Program for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing:
    Ability to pass the MCOE sign language test within six (6) months of employment.
• Desirable
  
  Qualifications:
  
  Coursework in education, psychology, child development, classroom behavior management and/or Early Childhood Education; experience working with students with disabilities and implementing behavioral management plans.

• Pay range: $23.06 - $29.79 Per Hour.
• Length of Work Year: M-F; 6.5 Hrs / 183 Days/Yr.

• Incentives:
  
  $150 per month for DHH program sign language proficiency; $150 per month for Braille proficiency; $150 per month for specialized health care procedures; $500 annual training incentive.
