Bilingual Para educator (Special Education PC# 1550)
Under the general direction of the Principal, the Bilingual Para educator performs a variety of duties assisting teachers in the overall support of instructional activities for students who are enrolled in special education moderate/severe programs and/or mainstream classrooms.
Requirements & Qualifications- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of higher education study (48 semester units), or an Associate’s degree or higher. Must demonstrate, through a formal State or local assessment, knowledge required for assisting in instruction, reading, writing, and mathematics. - Experience:
Prior job‑related experience, paid or voluntary, with school‑age children or individuals with disabilities. - Knowledge:
First Aid and Universal health precautions. - Language:
Strong oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Must pass the MCOE bilingual skills test (by invitation only, Tuesdays/Wednesdays). - Licenses &
Certifications:
Valid California Driver’s License with proof of insurability;
First Aid; MCOE Crisis Intervention Program certification within six months of employment; CPR certification within six months; MCOE sign language test for Program for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing within six months; MCOE Spanish Language Competency Test within six months. - Documents:
Copy of Transcript, Letter of Introduction, Proof of HS Graduation, Resume.
- $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators working in the DHH program with proficiency in sign language.
- $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators with proficiency in Braille who work in a position eligible for this incentive.
- $150 per month incentive for Specialized Health Care Procedures if assigned to specific students and trained by MCOE.
- $500 annual training incentive for employees who volunteer to participate in training for certification and for administering emergency medications/procedures as defined by contract.
