Title:
Education Specialist I - [40 hours/week – full benefits]

Work Schedule:

Full-time, non-exempt. Generally scheduled up to 40 hrs/week, 9:00am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday during Regular Program; and 8:00am–6:00pm during Intersession Program. Occasional late evenings and weekends for staff training and special events (e.g., Family Nights, Love of Literature Nights, etc.)

Reports to: Elementary Education Coordinator

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Elementary Education Coordinator, the Impact Specialist for Education drives youth success through outstanding, Mission-driven and integrity-centered leadership and management. S/he accomplishes this by engaging youth in age-appropriate and outcome-driven programs with specialized focus on academic success, literacy support and intervention. This includes ensuring a safe, positive, fun and impactful Clubhouse environment that engages hundreds of diverse youth, ages 6 to 18 years old, to ultimately achieve on-time grade progression, high school graduation, college/ postsecondary readiness and education leading to a livable wage career, healthy lifestyle and engaged citizenship.

Key Roles/Responsibilities

Youth Success

  • Fosters an environment where youth acquire a sense of belonging, competence, usefulness, power and influence, and are engaged in developmentally appropriate, high yield learning activities primarily for grades K-5 in Education, Character & Leadership Development, Health & Life Skills and Life & Workforce Readiness
  • Address youth behavior with a positive discipline approach that is fair, firm, consistent and kind; helping youth take responsibility/accountability for their actions accompanied with appropriate consequences
  • Ensures a culture of high expectations and frequent recognition of youth for their efforts, achievements

Program Staff Supervision and Development

  • Work collaboratively with the Elementary Education Coordinator in hiring, training, and managing Education Youth Development Professionals and Volunteers
  • Plans and facilitates training and promotes professional development

Program Impact Management

  • Monitors progress and takes action accordingly, emphasis on youth reach (e.g., outreach, recruitment, retention, average daily attendance, program participation, etc.) and impact
  • Conduct parent meetings in an effort to engage family with youth success
  • Utilizes impact management tools, including monitoring specific youth success indicators such as school attendance, behavior, grades, etc. via case management
  • Implement grant funded projects, analyze information/reports, present findings, make recommendations with the education team and take action
  • Contributes to strategic planning and facilitates implementation with clarity of goals, roles and responsibilities, process ensuring effective, accountable working relationships to achieve results
  • Responsible for delivery of school-day program commitment established in annual/quarterly goals (i.e. 50 students served through educational programming at school sites)
  • Ensure the program space is clean & well decorated, and reflective of monthly themes; equipment is in good condition; program supplies are adequate and the environment is safe and inviting for all elementary students (K-5th grade)

Interdepartmental Collaboration

Collaborates with other departments to achieve organizational goals for example:

  • Collaborate to identify youth grades K-5th assessed at below grade level
  • Contributes to special event planning and execution; provides oversight of monthly Love of Literature Nights, Club Store, Workforce Readiness, Back to School Family Night, end of year VIPeeps celebration in coordination with Operations
  • Identify any safety, transportation, maintenance, and technology issues to Operations

Community Relations

  • Attend school meetings and/or meet with teachers as needed to support intervention efforts
  • Maintains positive, collaborative working relationships with schools, businesses, other youth service organizations, clergy, law…
