Meaningful Work with NICU Patients

As a NICU Occupational Therapist
, you'll provide specialized therapy services to premature infants, medically complex newborns, and pediatric patients while collaborating closely with neonatologists, nurses, therapists, and families.

• Perform comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations and assessments.
• Develop individualized treatment plans based on physician referrals and patient needs.
• Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions for neonatal and pediatric patients.
• Promote developmental milestones, sensory integration, feeding readiness, positioning, and neurodevelopmental outcomes.
• Recommend and train caregivers on adaptive equipment and developmental strategies.
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, rehabilitation professionals, and families to optimize patient outcomes.
• Educate parents and caregivers regarding treatment plans, home programs, and discharge recommendations.
• Coordinate continuity of care and discharge planning with interdisciplinary teams.

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Develop patient-centered care plans aligned with physician goals and family priorities.
• Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as appropriate.
• Ensure treatment plans are both clinically effective and cost-conscious.
• Adhere to hospital policies, patient safety standards, and infection prevention guidelines.

You’ll also have opportunities to:

• Serve as Charge Therapist when assigned.
• Assist with orientation and mentoring of new staff and volunteers.
• Supervise Occupational Therapy students during clinical rotations.
• Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with California Children's Services (CCS) Case Managers to coordinate post-discharge therapy services when appropriate.

• Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy (required)

• Minimum 3 years of Occupational Therapy experience
• At least 1 year of recent NICU Occupational Therapy experience (required)

• Current California Occupational Therapist License
• Current BLS Certification (American Heart Association)

• Has recent hands-on NICU experience
• Excels in family-centered treatment and education
• Works collaboratively within interdisciplinary healthcare teams
• Demonstrates excellent clinical judgment and communication skills
• Thrives in a fast-paced hospital environment
• Is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care
