Position: Staff Nurse II - All Specialties

Position Description

Natividad may offer a sign-on bonus to candidates hired into a permanent full-time Staff Nurse II position in select units. Exam #25/52A19/10SS.

Natividad is currently seeking experienced ACUTE CARE nurses to fill permanent and/or per-diem vacancies in the following departments:

  • Intensive Care Unit
  • Labor & Delivery
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Staff Nurse II
's are expected to work at the full scope of their licensure, performing both clinical and leadership responsibilities under minimum supervision.

Significant Duties
  • May serve as charge nurse in the absence of the Supervising RN or Staff Nurse III by assuming unit specific operational activities
  • Provides overall patient care appropriate to the nursing care plan
  • Manages the patients under the direct supervision of Charge/Supervising RN
  • Provides teaching and support with patient and family
  • Notifies supervising RN and Health Care provider of negative change in patient status is a timely manner
  • Understanding, communicates, and applies pharmacokinetics and safe administration of common medications used for the treatment of unit specific patients
  • Safely administer routine Medications by PO, IM SQ and rectal routes
  • Provides care for families (adult, adolescent, newborns) with considerations for their developmental levels
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards
  • Properly prepare, hang, monitor and discontinue IV fluids and blood/blood components
  • Acts a patient advocate
  • Develops a written plan of care
  • Assists physicians
  • Monitors intake and output
  • Transports all medications including narcotics throughout the hospital
  • Completes accurate documentation of assigned patients
  • Provides ongoing assessment of the patient status changes
  • Communicates to the Supervising RN the need to change a course of nursing actions based upon change in the patient’s condition
  • Demonstrates ability to follow chain of command, as situation demands and delegates appropriately to the CNA or MUC
  • Evaluates patient response to pain interventions including pharmacological and non-pharmacological
  • Demonstrates proper use of emergency equipment for unit assigned
Minimum Qualifications

Required Licensure: Possession of a valid California Registered Nurse license or ability to obtain a California Registered Nurse License prior to employment is required.

Experience: Six (6) months or 1,040 hours of experience as a registered nurse in the hiring unit.

  • Federal, State and local laws and regulations that govern the nursing
  • Current treatments, drugs and equipment associated with an area of specialization
Working Knowledge
  • Community resource available to provide patient care and follow-up
  • Computer applications related to nursing
  • Principles and practices of quality assurance
  • Safety policies and procedures related to nursing
Skills and Ability to
  • Perform the full range of registered nursing duties and responsibilities
  • Plan and organize nursing plans for patients
  • Act as lead and/or trainer to other staff members
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
  • Provide excellent customer service and establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, patients and other hospital staff
  • Keep abreast of developments in area of nursing specialization
