Job SummaryUnder general supervision, the Skilled Mechanic performs crucial mechanical work including diagnosing, maintaining, repairing, servicing, inspecting, and testing MST buses and support vehicles. This is an excellent opportunity for those looking to advance their skills in a supportive environment.
Essential Functions- Mechanic A
- Carry out maintenance, repair, and diagnostic tasks to ensure MST buses and related equipment are operational.
- Perform troubleshooting and inspection for various types of buses and related equipment.
- Remove, repair, and replace components such as power plants and transmissions.
- Maintain lighting circuits, alarms, and ignition systems.
- Document defects and repairs on inspection forms and computer systems.
- Lead and mentor junior mechanics as necessary.
- Conduct road calls to perform emergency repairs.
- Mechanic B
- Conduct brake and tire safety inspections.
- Possess experience with basic service and minor repairs during road calls.
- Troubleshoot systems to identify simple problems.
- Document work done and maintain equipment records.
- Perform thorough preventive maintenance inspections (PMI).
- Mechanic C
- Perform entry-level vehicle maintenance and assist in diagnostic tasks.
- Engage in brake and tire inspections and perform PMIs.
- Support higher-level mechanics during road calls.
- Take on tasks based on skill level and training.
- Mechanic A:
Class C licensed driver, 3 years preferred; valid California driver's license required. High school diploma and four years of relevant experience in maintenance and repair of heavy equipment. - Mechanic B:
Class C licensed driver, 3 years preferred; valid California driver's license required. High school diploma and one year of relevant experience required. - Mechanic C:
Class C licensed driver, 3 years preferred; valid California driver's license required. High school diploma and one year of relevant experience preferred.
- Understanding of repair techniques for gasoline and diesel engines.
- Ability to follow safety regulations and procedures relevant to bus maintenance.
- Skills in using tools and diagnostic equipment relevant to the trade.
- Capacity to document repairs and communicate effectively.
- Familiarity with the operation of various machinery, including forklifts and lifts.
