About the role
Tired of rained-out days, seasonal layoffs, and never knowing how many hours you ll get? Here s something different.
At Framework First, you build real homes inside a climate-controlled factory: no weather delays, no working in the rain or the heat, steady work year-round. You work steady, full-time hours, week in and week out.
We build in our own factory in Salinas and have been putting up quality homes and ADUs for years, a real operation with a full factory floor and office, room to grow, and a craftsman trainer with 40+ years in the trade. The people who work hard here move up to Lead Carpenter.
Most of your time is in the factory, building homes start to finish in a controlled environment. When a home is ready for delivery, some jobs also need on-site work: setting the home, finish work, and punch-list items at the client s property. That s typically 30 to 60 percent of your time, depending on the week, across our Tri-County service area (Monterey, San Benito, Santa Cruz, and Santa Clara counties, plus occasional projects in San Luis Obispo County).
You ll get advance notice before any on-site day, and you ll use your own vehicle to meet us at the job site. On those days your pay is a fixed 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM at the job site, same as a normal factory day.
We are hiring multiple carpenters for our factory team right now.
What you ll build- Rough framing to spec, weatherproofing, and structural work.
- Window, door, and siding installation.
- Roofing, interior finishing, flooring, and final detail work.
- On-site set and finish work when a build calls for it: final touches, punch-list items, and getting a home ready for the client at delivery.
- 5+ years of framing or residential carpentry (not entry-level).
- Confident with the tools and able to read a plan set and build to it, working independently.
- You own your work: punctual, safety-minded, reliable, and accountable for what you build.
- A valid driver s license and reliable vehicle for the on-site days that come up (roughly 30 to 60% of your time), across our Tri-County + SLO service area.
- Location:
1610 Moffett Street, Salinas, CA 93905 (our factory), plus occasional on-site work across Monterey, San Benito, Santa Cruz, and Santa Clara counties (and, less often, San Luis Obispo County). - Schedule:
Mon–Fri, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM (40 hrs/week), steady hours and a paycheck you can count on. On-site days run the same fixed 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM at the job site. - Pay: $35–$55/hour to start, depending on experience, about $72,800–$114,400/yr at full-time 40-hour weeks. Where you land in that range is set by a paid working tryout on our factory floor, not by the resume.
- Benefits: 401(k), paid vacation/holiday/sick, employee discount, climate-controlled indoor factory work. Starting in 2026, we are also adding health, dental, and vision coverage.
We read every application. If your experience looks like a fit, we reach out to schedule a short virtual interview. A real conversation, not a form.
No videos to record and no hoops to jump through. If the call goes well, we invite you to a paid working tryout on our factory floor, so you can see the operation and we can see your craft.
Strong tryout, fast offer. We are hiring multiple carpenters right now.
