Young 5's Classroom Aide

The Young 5s Aide plays a vital role in supporting the classroom teacher and fostering a nurturing, inclusive environment for our youngest learners. This position focuses on assisting with the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of children in a play-based, developmentally appropriate learning setting. The aide helps implement engaging activities that promote curiosity, self-regulation, and foundational skills, while also encouraging cooperative play and problem-solving among students.

In this role, the aide is responsible for assisting in maintaining a safe, structured classroom atmosphere by supporting school procedures and ensuring students are supervised and cared for at all times. They assist with classroom organization and the coordination of daily routines and projects. This position is ideal for individuals who are patient, enthusiastic, and passionate about early childhood education. The aide works closely with the teacher and contributes meaningfully to a positive classroom culture that helps prepare students for success in Young 5's and beyond.

Qualifications

Required Education/Certification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)

Preferred Education/Certification

  • Some educational coursework in early childhood, education, or child development

Required Experience

  • Experience working with or supervising young children in either a school, childcare, camp, or similar setting
  • Demonstrated ability in a work environment that requires you to receive and follow directions
  • Ability to exercise patience, flexibility, and enthusiasm for supporting young children

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with preschool or school-age children in a structured setting
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and use exceptional judgment around children
Responsibilities & Duties
  • Support the classroom teacher with the individual needs of the Young 5 students.
  • Assist the classroom teacher with the implementation of a play-based learning environment that promotes curiosity, problem-solving, and self-regulation.
  • Support exceptional social, emotional, and physical care of students to encourage cooperative play, conflict resolution, and inclusion.
  • Support the implementation of classroom projects and learning activities under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Support the classroom teacher with the school and classroom health, safety, and security procedures.
  • Maintain a positive and nurturing classroom environment.
Essential Duties
  • Use classroom technology and digital tools as needed to support curriculum and communication.
  • Organize and coordinate work.
  • Effective and respectful verbal and written communication skills.
  • Communicate professionally with students, colleagues, and families, honoring confidentiality and respect.
  • Organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.
  • Engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Daily attendance, punctuality, and reliability in all aspects of the role.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Work in standard classroom and school building environments requiring mobility, visual and auditory acuity, communication skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, problem-solving skills, adaptability, technology proficiency, physical stamina and environmental awareness.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Responsible for monitoring five-year-old students at all times.

-2:30pm with one 15 minute break
