Position Summary
Assistant Professor (tenure‑track) or Lecturer (non‑tenure track) in Game Design and Development, Department of Computer Science and Engineering Technology, School of Business, Engineering, Applied Sciences, and Tourism Management, University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES).
Appointment is nine‑month. Reports directly to the Department Chair.
Teaching Responsibilities- Instruct undergraduate and graduate courses in Game Design and Development and Computer Science in face‑to‑face, hybrid, and online modalities.
- Lecturers carry a higher teaching load (typically 3‑4 courses per semester) with reduced research and service expectations.
- Maintain an active research and publication agenda in game design, game development, or closely related fields.
- Seek external funding to support research and student engagement.
- Provide service to the Department, School, University, and the profession.
- Participate in department, school, and university service activities.
- Contribute to curriculum development, recruitment, outreach, and retention initiatives.
- Mentor and motivate a diverse student body.
- Participate in professional data and computational science organizations and conferences.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Assistant Professor:
Earned Ph.D. or ABD in computer science, game design, computing, software engineering, or a closely related field. - Lecturer:
Substantial professional expertise in game development and design without a Ph.D. or ABD, and an earned M.S. in a closely related field. - Note:
Candidates without the specified game‑development/design experience will not be considered for either track.
- Demonstrated post‑secondary teaching experience.
- Demonstrated online or hybrid teaching experience.
- Experience working with diverse communities.
- Experience in obtaining external funding.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Excellence in teaching and commitment to mentoring students.
- Competence in research and creative activities.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Extended periods of standing, bending, and sitting at a desk.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and internally.
- Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.
