Wor-Wic Community College is accepting applications for a Mathematics and Science Department Head and Faculty. This position supervises, manages and teaches in one or more credit programs, having overall responsibility of a full-time faculty member with an equivalent of a 36-credit hour per fiscal year teaching load, including teaching load reduction for administrative duties as defined in the Teaching Load policy.

Duties
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the department and program(s) by creating and managing budget(s); leading meetings; maintaining records and meeting minutes; chairing search committees and selecting viable candidates for all standard and grant instructional and staff vacancies; interviewing, hiring and terminating all part‑time instructional staff; attending internal and external meetings as invited; and participating in recognition and graduation ceremonies.
  • Develops proposals for public and private projects or grants; assures departmental articulation with the community, other institutions of higher education, area schools and businesses; coordinates the department program advisory committee(s); works closely with the academic advising center and other Wor‑Wic departments; and participates in college sponsored events, recruiting activities, and departmental and college promotion events.
  • Provides academic and professional leadership for maintenance of high standards of academic quality and instruction, including overseeing course assignments for all faculty and instructional staff, including dual enrollment; addressing student concerns and grievances; assuring accurate completion of load and other reports; assisting with development and approval of syllabi; contributing to new and existing course descriptions; managing the annual and five‑year comprehensive assessment process;

    and reviewing and approving course and program level assessment, benchmarks and results.
  • Supervises departmental instructional staff, faculty, and staff; develops faculty, instructional staff and class schedules, including office hours and teaching responsibilities; provides orientation to new instructional and faculty members regarding departmental matters; trains, evaluates and recognizes employees and handles disciplinary matters in consultation with human resources; and recommends dismissal when appropriate for full‑time faculty members and other staff in the department.
  • Serves on curriculum committee and other institutional and faculty committees as appointed/elected.
  • Performs faculty duties and maintains excellence in teaching; reviews, coordinates, and approves textbook and instructional materials; attends conferences and faculty development activities as required; addresses student and instructional concerns; and administers a testing program for proficiency examinations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Master’s degree and 12 graduate credits in a relevant field.
  • Five years of college teaching experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, teaching, budget management and computer skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a doctoral degree and supervisory and/or demonstrated administrative experience.
Supplemental Information

This is a full‑time faculty position with excellent fringe benefits that is typically scheduled to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (may vary based on teaching load assignment).

This position is currently part of the WWCCFA bargaining unit represented by the MSEA. The starting salary for this 12‑month position will depend on the faculty rank offered (based on education, experience and qualifications) and will likely range from $63,000 to $77,100 for instructor, $72,400 to $88,700 for assistant professor, or $83,300 to $102,150 for associate professor.
