Lower School Library Coordinator

Salisbury Christian School is seeking a creative, organized, and relational individual to foster a love of reading across our elementary grade levels. A successful candidate must hold a degree in elementary education; a master’s degree in the area of reading or library science is strongly preferred, along with prior teaching and/or library experience. The position includes oversight of library services and instruction for students in Pre‑K through 5th Grade.

Applicants should be prepared to articulate an active faith in Jesus Christ and demonstrate the ability to engage elementary students in high‑quality instructional practices in the area of literacy.

Job Purpose

The Lower School Library Coordinator supports the mission of Salisbury Christian School and serves students and families. This role oversees the daily operations of the Lower School library and associated programs for students in Pre‑Kindergarten through Grade 5, promoting academic, spiritual, and emotional growth with a particular emphasis on literacy development and reading intervention.

Essential Functions
  • Maintain the physical environment of the library, ensuring materials and furnishings are organized, clean, and conducive to learning.
  • Oversee the purchase and maintenance of print and digital materials, including all database subscriptions, ensuring content aligns with the school’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Plan and teach Lower School library classes to advance literacy development for all students.
  • Implement programs and activities that foster a love of reading, incorporating S.T.E.A.M. education principles as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support curricular goals with appropriate resources.
  • Provide professional development for faculty and staff regarding library services.
  • Coordinate the annual Book Fair(s).
  • Plan and implement instructional interventions for Lower School students through one‑on‑one or small‑group instruction.
  • Work with Upper School Library Coordinator, Principals, and Director of Business Operations to establish and monitor the annual library budget, ensuring expenditures remain within allocation.
  • Represent the school professionally, reflecting the mission, vision, and foundational beliefs in all communications.
  • Build meaningful relationships with students, staff, and families, encouraging spiritual growth and acceptance of God’s gift of salvation.
  • Demonstrate initiative, strong work ethic, and consistent follow‑through on all projects.
  • Keep administration informed of serious issues that may impact the school.
  • Address conflict with students, parents, staff, and administration respectfully and privately, following Matthew 18 principles.
  • Know and follow all emergency procedures, exercising sound judgment.
Supplemental Functions
  • Supervise extracurricular activities, organizations, and outings as assigned.
  • Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth.
  • Provide input and constructive recommendations for administrative and managerial functions.
  • Support the broader program of the school by attending extracurricular activities when possible.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Administration.

  • Be a member in good standing at an evangelical church that holds a Statement of Faith in agreement with the SCS Statement of Faith.
  • Show by example the importance of Scripture study, prayer, witnessing, and unity in the Body of Christ.
  • Recognize that parents are primarily responsible before God for their children's education and support them accordingly.
  • Have the spiritual maturity, academic ability, and personal leadership qualities to train up a child in the way he should go.
