PURPOSE OVERVIEW

The primary function of this role is to manage the team of inspectors in the machine shop to ensure that machined parts adhere to aerospace standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for maintaining the machine shop inspection process and ensuring adherence to AS9100.
  • Provide leadership guidance to the inspection team in the machine shop by supervising the team including training, evaluations, maintaining schedules, and disciplinary action as needed.
  • Responsible for ensuring a safe and clean environment for all team members in the machine shop inspection area.
  • Maintaining a FOD free area by developing and ensuring a robust 5S program is in place.
  • Oversee daily inspection requirements and ensure that the team is processing per the plan/schedule.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining a skills matrix to ensure a cross‑functional team.
  • Responsible for recommending and securing additional technical training for the team.
  • Responsible for training team inspection methods, the use of tools, creating fixtures, and developing new and improved inspection techniques.
  • Develop and maintain inspection process documentation, work instruction, procedures, inspection plans, etc. that define the general process and the specific inspection method of specific parts.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of inspection records.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining a FAI and first piece verification process for the machine shop that meets customer and AS9100 requirements.
  • Responsible for the use and maintenance of precision instruments and tools, including programming of the CMM.
  • Responsible for communicating with team and engineering on GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance) and recommend improvements to design processes.
  • Responsible for identifying, reporting, communicating, and dispositioning nonconforming material.
  • Facilitate and chair the machine shop MRB meetings and ensure closure of NCM dispositions.
  • Responsible for root cause analysis of defects and implementing corrective actions of findings.
  • Provide technical leadership with cross‑functional teams as it relates to complex inspections and use of precision instruments.
  • Responsible for participating in design reviews related to machines parts.
  • Responsible for performance reviews of team.
  • Responsible for participating in continuous improvement initiatives and implementing best practices.
  • Work cooperatively with machine shop and production on improvements and quality initiatives.
  • This is a working supervisor role, to include performing inspections and measurements to ensure products meet quality standards, using various equipment and techniques, and will identify and analyze defects in products and processes, recommending corrective action and solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY
  • Aviation, Space, or Defense industry experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
  • Five years’ technical experience in quality inspection within and aerospace or precision manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance).
  • Proficiency with CMM use and programming (PCDMIS software) and other precision inspection tools.

  • Must be able to lead a diverse team with technical expertise.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with Machinist and Engineering on technical/quality issues.
