Wicomico County Public Works is a multi-disciplined department responsible for maintaining and operating key County infrastructure, including roads, bridges, dams, storm drains, landfills, recycling facilities, river dredging operations, and ferries. The Engineering Division supports these services by providing technical expertise and reviewing development plans to ensure new construction meets County standards and does not negatively impact existing infrastructure.

Duties:

• Review developer plans, reports, and calculations to ensure compliance with County engineering standards.
• Prepare scopes of work, cost estimates, schedules, and assist with consultant selection and contract administration.
• Guide and review work from engineering/survey consultants and support publicly bid construction projects.
• Provide technical support to contractors, review shop drawings, and conduct limited inspections.
• Perform engineering calculations for stormwater, drainage, hydraulics, and roadway design.
• Support Roads and Solid Waste operations, permitting, grant applications, and interagency coordination.
• Assist with bridge/dam project planning, dredging coordination, and preliminary site assessments.
• Help administer the MS4 Permit, WIP, and Stormwater Management Programs.
• Communicate with the public, officials, and agencies; attend meetings and present project information.
• Assist Emergency Management during storm events and support storm debris volume calculations and planning.

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field;
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification and/or Maryland Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred;
Additional coursework in hydraulics/hydrology, roadway design, structures, dredging, or related areas desirable;
Equivalent engineering disciplines or experience may substitute for education;
Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office;

Experience with ArcGIS, HEC‑RAS, Hydro

CAD, or similar tools preferred; MDE Green Card for Sediment Control preferred;
Ability to obtain NIMS certifications;
Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and project design;
Excellent communication skills and ability to work with developers, consultants, agencies, and the public;
Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate multidisciplinary teams;
Ability to perform field inspections and physical tasks as needed;
Valid driver’s license; and Ability to successfully pass drug testing and background check.
