State Highway Administration, District I – Wicomico County Transportation Engineering Technician II (OPEN RECRUITMENT)
The State Highway Administration's (SHA) District I is currently recruiting for a Transportation Engineering Technician II in Wicomico County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below by the closing date. This is a position‑specific recruitment. Natureof Work
This position is responsible for performing transportation engineering surveys, inspections, design, materials testing, data collection, minor traffic studies, and administrative duties. Specific duties may include inspecting construction and maintenance projects; performing tests on soil and materials; evaluating methods for maintenance operations; serving on a survey crew; drafting design details, maintenance contract specifications and construction notes; calculating quantities for construction projects and maintenance activities;
preparing plans, maps, or right‑of‑way plats; and collecting and recording traffic and planning data. Employees in this class do not supervise but may provide instructions to less experienced employees. Work is performed under the supervision of an engineer or higher‑level technical employee. Working conditions vary with assignments and are performed in the office or in the field with exposure to varying weather conditions, rough terrain, walking, standing, bending, and lifting loads up to 80 lbs.
May require working in proximity with traffic on Maryland highways and requires hand/eye coordination in the efficient operation of computers and other office machines, surveys and other equipment. This position may also require working various shifts and on weekends depending on assignment.

Qualifications- Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
- Experience: One year of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.
- Must possess basic computer skills.
- Ability to physically perform essential duties.
- Knowledge of the inspections conducted on maintenance and construction projects.
Candidate must possess a Class C driver's license valid in the state of Maryland.
Additional InformationSpecial Requirements: Employees may be required to travel and be available for work in any part of the State, subject to change of assignment as required.
