Executive Director, Finance & Accounting
Location: Hybrid (MD) or Fully Remote (East Coast Hours)
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
A mission-driven organization is seeking an Executive Director, Finance & Accounting to lead financial strategy, accounting operations, budgeting, forecasting, audit oversight, grant accounting, and team development. This individual will serve as a key advisor to executive leadership while driving process improvements and operational excellence across the finance function.
Responsibilities- Lead budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and reporting
- Oversee accounting operations, month‑end close, cash management, and internal controls
- Manage audits, compliance, and grant accounting activities
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership
- Drive systems and process improvement initiatives
- Lead and develop a finance and accounting team
- Active CPA required
- 10+ years of finance and accounting leadership experience
- Director-level leadership experience or higher
- Strong nonprofit finance and accounting background
- Grant accounting and compliance expertise
- Experience with audits, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Fully remote candidates considered (East Coast hours required)
