Job Description
Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) works under the guidance of the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager) and under the management of the Center Physician for medical issues. The role supports plasma center operations by determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, reviewing laboratory test results, and notifying donors of unsuitable results. The Specialist is responsible for maintaining compliance with plasma collection regulations and providing center‑level support for environmental, health and safety (EHS) matters.
Responsibilities- Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self‑exclusion, medical history interview, and acceptance requirements.
- Perform physical examination, blood testing, and review of Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate donor reactions and follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including development of Center Physician standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for findings requiring guidance on donor safety and eligibility.
- Support Hepatitis B and seasonal flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
- Manage employee incidents and determine further evaluation by occupational health/ER, referencing EHS guidance.
- Serve as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats within the local community.
- High school diploma or equivalent, including a graduate‑level nursing program meeting state requirements.
- Licensed or certified in the state of assignment:
Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA). - Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
- Fulfillment of state requirements for basic IV therapy.
- Completion of FDA‑approved training for Bio Life Medical Support Specialist.
- At least two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Hourly wage: $35.20 – $48.40. Actual wage depends on qualifications, experience, and location.
