Histotechnologist Position Summary

The Histotechnologist prepares tissue and body fluid specimens sent for microscopic examination and diagnosis by a pathologist, performing any special staining techniques and /or immunoperoxidase techniques requested by the pathologist. He/She performs appropriate clerical and computer applications necessary to process ant charge these specimens The Histotechnologist participates in educational and training activities and may participate in routine administrative and non-routine technical functions.

Position Requirements

* Successful completion of an approved program of Histology Technology (A.A.) degree plus demonstrated technical proficiency resulting form certification by an accepted agency. One year preferred

Histotechnologist Work Schedule

* Histology is staffed six days a week. Monday to Friday, it is staffed 0400 to 1600. Saturday, it is staffed 0400 to 1200.

* Personnel may be assigned to work mostly one shift or may have rotational schedules. Both options may include Saturdays.

* Rotational coverage of Saturdays and holidays.

* Expected to work overtime and/or additional weekends in times of staffing shortages, emergencies and unexpected increases in workload.

* Expected to respond in the event of a disaster.

Salary range: $26.92 - $41.72 Commensurate with experience
