** Responsibilities:
** Full-time position working within the Nutrient Analytical Services Laboratory (NASL, https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).), an environmental analytical laboratory providing chemical analysis of water and sediment in conjunction with water quality monitoring and environmental research programs sponsored by local, state, and federal agencies, as well as organizations from the private sector. NASL is a nationally accredited laboratory (NELAC Lab# 12066), and all staff members have duties and responsibilities related to maintaining that certification.
** Description of responsibilities:
** Initial training will focus on the preparation and subsequent analysis of natural waters and sediment via various methodologies. Position will progressively require additional analytical and data management responsibilities. All analysts are also required to perform form tasks in conjunction with the routine operation of an environmental analytical laboratory. Other responsibilities include, but not limited to; maintenance of scientific glassware, transporting shipping containers (not greater than 25 pounds) to and from receiving area, handling/processing of water and sediment samples in preparation of chemical analysis, assist other laboratory analysts with routine wet chemistry techniques such as preparing reagents and chemicals.
Telework is not possible in this position.

* Minimum Qualifications:
** A B.S./B.A. degree in biology, environmental science or other relevant natural science is required. A degree in the chemical sciences is preferred. Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to work independently and within a group, as well as good written and spoken communication skills are essential.
** Preferred Qualificiations:
** Prior laboratory experience preferred, particularly knowledge of colorimetric analytical methods. Data management skills considered an asset. A willingness to trouble shoot problems with instrumentation and communicate with service providers required as well. Occasionally extended hours will be necessary to complete tasks.
Position is contractual and renewed on an annual basis, contingent on performance and funding availability. A comprehensive State of Maryland benefits package is also available.
