Cybersecurity Support Technician Apprenticeship Opportunity
The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) is offering a two‑year Cybersecurity Support Technician Apprenticeship Program for current CCBC students. The program provides real‑world experience that complements academic coursework and is part of a higher‑education cybersecurity track.
Job OverviewThe apprentice will support cybersecurity processes, technologies, and policies under close supervision. Employees may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays and may be subject to call‑ins. Reliable transportation is required.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in developing security policies and protocols and enforce compliance with network security policies.
- Maintain and manage firewalls, including hardware and software.
- Monitor cybersecurity products to protect against malware, data leaks, phishing attacks, spam, and endpoint vulnerabilities.
- Assess and mitigate system, network, business continuity, and related security risks and vulnerabilities.
- Review network utilization data to identify unusual patterns, suspicious activity, or signs of potential threats.
- Gain insight into data privacy requirements (e.g., data loss prevention and applicable regulatory requirements for MDOT data).
The first three months are spent at MDOT headquarters in Anne Arundel County. Afterwards, the applicant will work at one of the modal administrations (MAA, MPA, MVA, MTA, SHA, MdTA, TSO).
EducationGraduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high‑school equivalency certificate is required. Applicants must be enrolled in CCBC Cybersecurity, IT, or a related program and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. Completion or verification of prior CCBC courses with a grade of “B” or better in CSIT 111 – Fundamentals of Logic and Design, DCOM 101 – Introduction to Data Communications, and DCOM 217 – CCNA I Introduction to Networks is required.

Requirements to Apply- Students must have a declared major in Cybersecurity, IT, or related fields.
- Students may not have completed more than 50 % of the 362 hours of apprenticeship‑related instruction.
- Students must have reliable transportation.
- Students must be 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to perform job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations.
- DCOM 101 Introduction to Data Communications
- DCOM 217 – CCNA I Introduction to Networks
- CSIT 111 Fundamentals of Logic and Design
- Minimum 3.0 GPA at CCBC
Candidates may be evaluated for DCOM 101 & CSIT 111 competencies. Candidates may be evaluated with a CISCO Academy check for DCOM 217 competencies. CCBC solely evaluates prior experience and training for advanced credit.
