Accounting Technician I
The Accounting Technician I performs technical accounting and bookkeeping work in support of the centralized finance department. Responsibilities include processing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling financial records, assisting with payroll, and preparing required reports for state and federal agencies. Work is performed under general supervision and evaluated for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established procedures.
Responsibilities- Financial Recordkeeping — Prepare and maintain journals, ledgers, and accounting records.
- Bank Reconciliation — Reconcile bank statements; prepare cash receipt and disbursement journals.
- Accounts Payable/Receivable — Process invoices, payments, and receivables; assist with external reporting.
- Payroll Processing — Process payroll, maintain payroll records, prepare tax reports, and complete year-end tasks (W-2s, longevity payments, ESC reports).
- Section 8 Housing Program Support — Enter and verify financial data; assist with required submissions.
- Travel Voucher Review — Review travel reimbursements for accuracy and compliance.
- Fixed Asset Maintenance — Maintain fixed asset records; assist with inventories and purchase orders.
- Data Entry & Reporting — Prepare spreadsheets, code accounts, maintain files, and support mandated reporting.
- Additional duties will be required as assigned

- Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Familiarity with modern office procedures and accounting software.
- Ability to operate computers, perform accurate data entry, and use spreadsheet and accounting programs.
- Strong ability to compile figures, detect errors, and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with staff, vendors, and clients.
- Associate degree in Accounting from an accredited college OR
- High school diploma plus one year of accounting experience,
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
