Aging Specialist performs oversight and administrative work for within the COG aging program. This employee will review services, policy and administrative processes performed by external contractors performing direct aging services; coordinate and administer an aging management software reporting and record keeping system; train and assist in the installation of software program on contractor systems; administer agency awards program and provides administrative support to the Area Agency on Aging Director with a variety of administrative tasks.
- Administratively assist the Area Agency on Aging Director with policy and procedure review and report submissions to funding agencies, grant program funding requests, and area wide aging master plan.
- Provides direct and indirect technical assistance on the aging program to service providers and other organizations, as needed.
- Serves as an aging program generalist and answers questions, provides program information, or redirects inquiries to appropriate staff person or service provider.
- Collaborates with the Communications Manager to maintain the aging programs website and refresh data updates pages and data as needed.
- Counsels older adults on reverse mortgages.
- Maintains various databases or directories; coordinates or participates in specific programs or services such as Silver Arts, Senior Games, and others as may be assigned from time to time.
- Assist with other division tasks such as report generation, attendance at aging meetings, or other agency director needs.
- Additional job duties will be required as assigned.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods related to care for the aging population.
- Considerable knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations relating to funded programs for the aging.
- Knowledge of the application of personal computers to document preparation, spreadsheet analysis, reporting, and record-keeping software, and other related applications.
- Ability to plan, coordinate, analyze, and compile administrative and financial information, and to prepare related reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, clients, coworkers, and the general public.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably with a major in human services, social work, or related field, with specific coursework in gerontology and experience working with older adults.
- Must possess the ability to work independently, as well as with a team. Must be organized, detail-oriented, and possess excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Experience with public speaking and teaching to groups.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office:
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. - An equivalent combination of education and experience is accepted.
