Discover a career with rich rewards, limitless opportunities for growth and mobility, and competitive salaries and benefits. The Salisbury VAMC is seeking two Non-Invasive Cardiologists to provide quality care under the Chief of the Cardiology Section of Medicine Service.

Job Opportunity Tracks Track 1:
Outpatient and Diagnostic Focus
  • Location:

    Kernersville Outpatient Clinic
  • Responsibilities:
    Evaluate patients in the clinic, interpreting echocardiograms, stress tests and nuclear stress tests (no nuclear board certification required).
  • Diagnostic Responsibilities:
    Interpret Holter monitor and heart monitor results.
Track 2:
Inpatient and Procedural Focus with Outpatient and Diagnostic Responsibilities
  • Location:

    Charlotte, NC Outpatient Clinic with one day a week at Salisbury VA Medical Center (Inpatient)
  • Clinical Duties:
    Evaluate patients in the clinic, interpreting echocardiograms, stress tests and nuclear stress tests (no nuclear board certification required).
  • Diagnostic Responsibilities:
    Interpret Holter monitor and heart monitor results.
  • Inpatient Care:
    Evaluate and treat inpatient cases with a focus on comprehensive cardiac care.
  • Procedural Expertise:
    Perform transesophageal echocardiograms and electro cardioversions.
  • Sedation Management:
    Provide conscious sedation for relevant procedures.
  • Teaching and Research Opportunities:
    While the primary focus is clinical service, opportunities for clinical research and academic activities exist. Candidates with grant funding for research may allocate a portion of their time to these endeavors, with up to 75% clinical and 25% research if they have their own funding.
  • Teaching Opportunities in Salisbury Track #2:
    Teaching is available, representing a smaller part of practice. Educators will primarily be engaged in clinical service, with up to 10% of their time devoted to teaching medical and PA students.
Work Schedule / Tour Of Duty
  • Traditional

    Schedule:

    Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
  • Alternative

    Schedule:

    Four days per week, 8:00 AM – 6:30 PM. The specific days are open for discussion.
Call Coverage
  • Nature:
    Call coverage handled exclusively by phone.
  • Frequency:
    Approximately once every 7 weeks.
  • Location:

    No hospital presence required during on‑call rotation.
Academic Affiliation

Wake Forest University School of Medicine

Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship:
    Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is impossible to recruit qualified citizens, in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Education:

    Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine.
  • Licensure:
    Current, complete, unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state, territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • Residency:
    Completion of a residency program in an accredited core specialty.
  • Board Certification:
    Board‑certified or board‑eligible in Cardiology.
Pay & Benefits
  • Pay:
    Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases (Sign‑On Bonus Authorized).
  • Paid Time Off: 50–55 days per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5‑day paid absence for CME).
  • Retirement:
    Traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% contribution by VA.
  • Insurance:
    Federal health, vision, dental, term life, long‑term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
  • Licensure:
    One full and unrestricted license from any U.S. State or territory.
  • CME:
    Possible $2,500 per year reimbursement (must be full‑time with board certification).
  • Malpractice:
    Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.
  • Contract:

    No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.
