Position Purpose

The Associate Leader serves as a key member of the campus leadership team, helping bring Overton-Knox's mission - Engaged Today. Transforming Tomorrow.

- to life in classrooms and school culture. This role supports the Campus Leader in ensuring that every student receives a high-quality, rigorous education that cultivates belonging, relevance, and purpose.

The AL focuses on coaching teachers, coordinating instructional systems, and leading daily structures like Student and Adult Strong Start to ensure alignment with Knox's Core Commitments:
Wellness & Belonging, Real-World Relevance, Deep Engagement, and Rigorous Learning for All.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership and Coaching

* Ensure that every student experiences engaging and academically rigorous learning daily.

* Observe and coach teachers to improve lesson design, student discourse, and assessment practices.

* Lead Professional Learning Communities and data reviews to drive continuous improvement.

* Co-design and monitor implementation of project-based and career-connected learning experiences.

* Collaborate with the Campus Leader and Instructional Team to align curriculum, assessment, and support to graduate aims.

Culture and Community Leadership

* Model and facilitate Student and Adult Strong Start routines that promote wellness, connection, and focus.

* Foster a school-wide climate of respect, restoration, and belonging.

* Partner with the Wellness & Belonging Team to analyze culture data (attendance, discipline, Panorama surveys) and implement responsive strategies.

* Support family and community engagement events that connect students' learning to real-world contexts.

Operational and Team Leadership

* Supervise daily operations and support efficient school-day logistics (scheduling, coverage, testing, events).

* Assist in staff recruitment, onboarding, and development aligned to Overton's mission and core commitments.

Professional Growth and Learning

* Participate actively in district and school leadership development opportunities.

* Engage in reflective practice and model growth mindset for staff and students.

Required Qualifications

* Valid North Carolina Principal or Assistant Principal License (012/013 or equivalent).

* Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

* Minimum five years of successful classroom teaching experience.

* Demonstrated ability to lead teams toward improved instruction and student results.

Preferred Qualifications

* Training or experience in project-based learning, SEL, restorative practices, or MTSS.

* Demonstrated skill in data-driven instruction and adult learning facilitation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Deep knowledge of effective instructional practices and adult learning theory.

* Skill in coaching teachers using observation, feedback, and data.

* Ability to build trust, collaborate across teams, and navigate conflict with empathy and clarity.

Professional Expectations

* Participate and co-lead daily in Adult Strong Start and ensure effective implementation of Student Strong Start.

* Collaborate closely with the Principal and teams to uphold the school's mission and design intent.

* Other duties as assigned by the Campus Leader or district leadership.
