Position Purpose
The Assistant Principal (AP) is a unified instructional and culture leader serving both Overton and Knox campuses. This AP ensures that every student, PK-8, experiences rigorous learning, belonging, wellness, and real-world relevance, while coaching and supporting staff in instruction, restorative culture, and daily systems.
This role integrates the core expectations of instructional leadership, staff development, restorative practice, student support, and day-to-day campus operations. The AP brings to life the Overton-Knox mission-Engaged Today. Transforming Tomorrow.

The AP serves as a key member of both campuses' leadership teams, ensuring alignment, coherence, and consistency across PK-8.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership & Coaching
* Ensure that every classroom delivers high-quality, standards-aligned, engaging instruction.
* Observe and coach teachers using feedback cycles that strengthen planning, instruction, discourse, and rigor.
* Lead and facilitate PLCs focused on data, student work, learning progressions, and continuous improvement.
* Support implementation of project-based learning, relevance-based instruction, and authentic assessment.
* Model effective instructional practices through co-planning, co-teaching, or demonstration lessons.
* Collaborate with the Instructional Team to align curriculum, assessment, and professional learning with district aims.
* Ensure coherence in instructional expectations across both campuses.
School Culture, Restorative Practice & Student Support
* Lead implementation of a restorative, relationship-centered culture with consistent expectations and equitable practices.
* Model and facilitate restorative circles, mediations, reintegration processes, and restorative conversations.
* Support teachers in developing positive classroom environments grounded in belonging and accountability.
* Oversee Tier 1 & Tier 2 behavior systems and partner with counselors, MTSS teams, and families for coordinated supports.
* Track and analyze culture data (attendance, behavior, SEL indicators) and design proactive interventions.
* Design and support effective Student Strong Start routines that build readiness, connection, and focus.
Adult Strong Start & Adult Learning
* Co-lead Adult Strong Start daily, modeling a reflective, relational staff culture.
* Facilitate professional learning around instruction, SEL/wellness, restorative practices, de-escalation, trauma-informed approaches, and classroom culture.
* Build teacher capacity through high-quality adult learning experiences.
Operational & Campus Leadership
* Support daily supervision and operations across both campuses (arrival/dismissal, transitions, coverage, testing).
* Assist with scheduling, assessment logistics, and coordinated student support systems.
* Contribute to recruitment, onboarding, and mentoring of staff aligned to mission and core commitments.
* Ensure consistent implementation of systems between Overton and Knox.
Family & Community Engagement
* Serve as a positive, proactive point of contact with families regarding student well-being, academics, and engagement.
* Partner with the Family & Community Engagement Coordinator to strengthen caregiver relationships.
* Collaborate with the CCL Team and community partners to ensure student experiences are relevant, supportive, and grounded in purpose.
* Communicate effectively with families to build trust, transparency, and partnership across PK-8.
Required Qualifications
* Valid NC Principal License (012/013 or equivalent).
* Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, Counseling, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Minimum five years successful classroom teaching experience.
* Demonstrated success coaching educators or leading instructional/culture systems.
* Experience working with restorative practices, SEL, or MTSS frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in project-based learning, career-connected learning, or inquiry-based instruction.
* Training in restorative practices, trauma-informed care, or adolescent development.
* Experience supporting diverse learners and families across multiple grade spans.
* Skill in leading adult learning and school wide improvement efforts..
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Deep knowledge of effective instruction, restorative practices, SEL, adolescent development, and continuous improvement.
* Strong ability to coach adults, facilitate data-driven reflection, and promote collaborative learning.
* Ability to lead with clarity, consistency, empathy, and high expectations.
