Job Description

Purpose: To plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments, which help the student learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their education and social development.

Supervises: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.

Key

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • A. Major Function:
    Management of Instructional Time
    – The Teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
  • B. Major Function:
    Management of Student Behavior
    – The Teacher has established rules and procedures for handling routine administrative matters, verbal participation and student movement; frequently monitors behavior during activities and transitions; stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently, while maintaining the dignity of the student.
  • C. Major Function:
    Instructional Presentation
    – The Teacher begins each lesson with a review, introduces objectives, delivers content clearly, provides examples and demonstrations, assigns tasks with a high success rate, maintains pace, handles transitions efficiently, and summarizes key points.
  • D. Major Function:
    Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance
    – The Teacher maintains clear standards and due dates, circulates to check performance, uses oral and written work to assess progress, and poses questions clearly.
  • E. Major Function:
    Instructional Feedback
    – The Teacher provides feedback on in‑class work, offers prompt feedback on out‑of‑class assignments, affirms correct responses, and provides sustaining feedback after incorrect or no responses.
  • F. Major Function:
    Facilitating Instruction
    – The Teacher has an instructional plan aligned with school and system goals, uses diagnostic information, maintains records, aligns objectives, learning strategies, assessment, and student needs, and utilizes resources to support the program.
  • G. Major Function:
    Interacting Within the Education Environment
    – The Teacher treats all students fairly and interacts effectively with students, coworkers, parents, and community.
  • H. Major Function:
    Performing Non‑Instructional Duties
    – The Teacher carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned, adheres to laws, policies, and regulations, follows a professional development plan, and demonstrates growth.
