Role Overview
The Archive Services Librarian is responsible for developing, managing, and administering the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Archives. The Archive Services Librarian also focuses on creating, maintaining, and enriching metadata representing the library’s physical and digital archive collections.
This position spends approximately 50% of its time on archival duties and 50% on reference and instruction duties. All Rowan-Cabarrus Librarians have public service responsibilities regardless of their position within Library Services, including circulation, reference, instruction, and liaison responsibilities. Working collaboratively and independently in a team environment is essential in this role. Librarians also participate in college and professional activities, as appropriate.
This position is located at our Salisbury, NC, location. Regular physical presence at the assigned work location is an essential function of this position; remote work is not available.
- Performs a wide range of library circulation activities, including assisting and training patrons, student workers, faculty, and staff in finding print and electronic resources; ascertaining and responding to patron’s needs; searching for and pulling materials from shelves for patrons; processing incoming and outgoing library materials; obtaining payments for fines; creating and updating patron records; placing materials on hold; preparing and disseminating notifications of overdue items;
communicating library policies and procedures. - Develops and maintains, monitors, and evaluates collections in assigned area of responsibility; recommends additions and removal of collection items; processes purchased and donated materials; orders supplies and catalogs materials.
- Prepares, maintains, and approves a variety of operational records and reports.
- Coordinates library operations, including implementing and recommending library policies and procedures.
- May prioritize and assign work to lower level staff; monitor the performance of lower level staff; train staff on work methods and procedures; and participate in staff evaluations.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Master’s Degree in Library Science accredited by the American Library Association (ALA).
- 1 year of professional experience working in an archive.
- 1 year of experience as a professional librarian.
- Demonstrated knowledge of archival standards, preservation principles and practices, and records management principles and practices.
- Demonstrated experience with Archive Space and Omeka Digital Platforms.
- Demonstrated experience with Archival Scanning.
