Position Summary:
Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is seeking chemistry tutors to work with students one-on-one or in small groups in support of foundational and general chemistry courses. Professional tutors must be knowledgeable in their field and have a strong academic background in their subject area. Peer tutors must have taken advanced courses in their field, earning no lower than a B, and have an overall GPA of at least 3.0. The Tutoring Center is open Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Hours will vary within this schedule.
This position is for the North Campus in Salisbury, NC.
This position is classified as part‑time temporary
, and no minimum number of hours is guaranteed. Weekly hours may vary throughout the year based on operational needs and department demand. Part‑time roles in this department are hired for in‑person support, and therefore are not eligible to work remotely, including, but not limited to, during department closures, college closures, or virtual learning days.
Required Education/
Experience:
Professional Tutor: degree or success in advanced courses in the subject area
Peer Tutor:
High School Diploma or equivalent and at least two recommendations of an instructor

Applicants should have knowledge of:

Applicants should also have the ability to:
- organize the tutoring environment to promote productivity and learning

- identify, develop or implement individual education plans for students.
- communicate clearly and successfully apply strong interpersonal skills to interactions with students, coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.

Work Hours:
Work hours will vary but will generally fall between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday and 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Friday. Summer hours are 10:00-4:00 Monday-Thursday and 9:00-1:00 on Friday.
Pay rate is determined by education level.
