Job DescriptionReports to: Principal
Supervises: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Duties and Responsibilities- A. Management of Instructional Time: The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
- B. Management of Student Behavior: The teacher has established a set of rules and procedures that govern the handling of routine administrative matters; establishes rules for student verbal participation and talk during different types of activities; governs student movement; frequently monitors behavior and stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining the dignity of the student.
- C. Instructional Presentation: The teacher begins a lesson or instructional activity with a review of previous materials; introduces the lesson and specific learning objectives when appropriate; speaks fluently and precisely; presents content using concepts and language understandable to students; provides relevant examples and demonstrations; assigns tasks with a high success rate; asks questions appropriately; maintains brisk pace and smooth transitions; summarizes main points at the end.
- D. Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: The teacher maintains clear work standards and due dates; circulates during class to check all students’ performance; uses oral, written, and other work products to check progress; poses questions clearly and one at a time.
- E. Instructional Feedback: The teacher provides feedback on in‑class work to encourage growth; gives prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work; affirms correct responses; provides sustaining feedback after an incorrect or no response.
- F. Facilitating Instruction: The teacher has an instructional plan compatible with school and system‑wide curricular goals; uses diagnostic information to develop and revise objectives; maintains accurate records; aligns objectives, strategies, assessment, and student needs; uses resources to support instruction.
- G. Interacting Within the Educational Environment: The teacher treats all students fairly, interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community.
- H. Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: The teacher carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned; adheres to laws, policies, and regulations; follows a professional development plan and demonstrates growth.

Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions- Physical Requirements: Use a variety of equipment and classroom tools; lift, carry, push, pull or move objects with negligible force; standing and walking consistent with light work.
- Data Conception: Compare and judge data, people, or things.
- Interpersonal Communication: Speak, signal, and exchange information; receive instructions and directions.
- Language Ability: Read and prepare correspondence, reports, forms, and instructional materials.
- Intelligence: Apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions; interpret written and diagrammatic instructions.
- Verbal Aptitude: Record, deliver, and explain procedures; follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively in technical or professional languages.
- Numerical Aptitude: Use mathematical formulas, perform calculations, and apply statistics.
- Form/Spatial Aptitude: Inspect items for proper dimensions.
- Motor Coordination: Coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in off‑hand tasks.
- Manual Dexterity: Handle office equipment and hand tools with minimal coordination.
- Color Discrimination: Differentiate colors and shades.
- Interpersonal Temperament: Deal with people beyond instructions; adapt under stress or emergencies.
- Physical Communication: Talk and hear; use telephone.
Skills and Abilities
- Constantly monitor the safety and well‑being of students, especially in inclusive activities.
- Motivate students.
- Maintain a clean and orderly environment; perform general clerical duties.
- Maintain order and discipline in a classroom.

Full‑time: $4,100 to $5,595 per month.
