What We Offer
As the Supervisor of Plant Engineering Services, you lead the team responsible for keeping our hospital environment safe, compliant, and fully operational. This is a working supervisor role — you will oversee daily operations while also providing hands‑on technical support to ensure our facilities, utilities, and life safety systems function reliably for patient care.
Previous work in a healthcare facility is not required. However, you must be able to effectively communicate and partner with clinical teams, contractors, and executive leadership.
The role requires prompt availability for emergencies and off‑schedule events, ideally living in close radius of campus.
The Supervisor will work rotating weekends.

- Supervise and schedule a team of 10–15 Plant Engineering team members
- Oversee maintenance of life safety systems, HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, utilities, and facility infrastructure
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (NFPA, OSHA, Joint Commission, and local/state authorities)
- Coordinate contractors and vendors for projects and repairs
- Partner with clinical teams, department leaders, and hospital administration
- Perform hands‑on technical work as needed to support planned and corrective maintenance
- Manage work orders, projects, documentation, and reporting
- Respond to facility emergencies and urgent operational needs
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate degree in a technical trade or related field preferred
Experience:
- 5+ years leading or coordinating maintenance/operations teams required
- 10+ years of plant operations and facility maintenance experience required
Licensure/Certification:
- North Carolina Driver’s License (NCDL) required
Skills & Leadership Expectations:
- Strong knowledge of facility systems (mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, utilities)
- Working knowledge of applicable regulatory codes and standards
- Experience managing teams, schedules, and maintenance projects
- Ability to collaborate with contractors, clinical staff, and executive leadership
- Willingness to learn Novant Health processes and embrace continuous improvement
- Positive, solutions‑focused mindset — adaptable and open to new approaches
- Strong communication, delegation, and critical thinking skills
