American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Cardiac Telemetry unit, requiring a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and the ability to manage high patient volumes on a weekend night shift schedule.
Requirements- Active RN license in NC or a compact state (may be submitted with license pending)
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a cardiac telemetry or similarly acute setting
- Proficiency in IV insertion and telemetry monitoring
- Experience with pre- and post-procedure cardiac patients, cardiac drips, and PCI
- Ability to titrate Cardizem drips
- Must pass an EKG competency test prior to start
- Two professional supervisor/manager references from within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but must be on file before start)
- Candidates living within 50 miles of the facility are considered local and subject to a modified rate
- Hospital-based Cardiac Telemetry unit serving as the primary cardiac and stroke unit
- Patient population includes stable pre/post care for pacemaker implantation, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), cardiac catheterization, TR bands, post-interventional peripheral vascular procedures, unstable angina, low-risk chest pain, CHF, dysrhythmias, new CVA, and TIA patients
- Unit manages multiple cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone
- Unit currently houses COVID-positive patients, with use of Opti-Flow and BiPAP during surge periods
- Target nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6; candidates must be comfortable managing up to 6 patients during surge
- Unit typically turns over 78‑90 patients per week, requiring adaptability to rapid patient cycling
- Special equipment includes telemetry monitors, pulse oximetry, high-flow O2, non-rebreather masks, and BiPAP (chronic use only)
- Documentation and medication systems:
Epic (Dimensions), Pyxis, and SBAR communication - Schedule:
12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15), Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only - 36 hours per week; no block scheduling
- On-call required; frequency depends on patient census
- Floating is required
- Self-scheduling with leadership oversight; no block scheduling permitted
- Contracts available in 13- or 26-week increments
- A team lead is available on the unit to assist with admissions and discharges
- Orientation is 36 hours; travelers must be available every day during week one for hospital orientation
- 8‑10 hours of pre-start online modules are required for this acute care role; modules must also be completed annually
- No RTO is permitted during the first week of assignment due to orientation; up to 7 days of RTO may be approved for the remainder of the contract as long as it does not fall on a holiday
- Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Any previous permanent, PRN, or employee-pool staff of the health system must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Travel pairs are welcome, but each traveler must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
- Navy blue or white scrubs are required;
Novant-branded t-shirts are permitted; jackets must match uniform color and material (no fleece); no open-toe clogs with holes - First-time travelers are welcome to apply
