Position: Licensed Practical Nurse (Podiatry)

Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (Podiatry) provides direct patient care and support in the Podiatry Care Clinic within the Veterans Health Care System, Salisbury, NC.

Responsibilities
  • Perform more complex nursing assignments within the Ambulatory Care Outpatient Clinic setting.
  • Promote veterans in attaining maximum functional potential through modalities such as ambulation, bowel and bladder training, dressing, grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, range of motion exercises, and fall prevention modalities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills to carry out a full range of practical nursing care and specialized patient care duties to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems in the Podiatry Clinic/Outpatient setting.
  • Prepare and administer prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and/or intravenous) and perform treatments according to established policies and procedures.
  • Perform technical, preventive, and rehabilitative nursing procedures for patients with complex needs.
  • Promptly recognize potential urgent or emergent patient care situations and seek assistance of MD/PA/NP/RN for appropriate interventions.
  • Serve as a resource person for other staff within the organization and demonstrate ability to implement complex/specialized patient care, prioritize patient care treatment modalities.
  • Perform support duties for complex diagnostic examinations and handle specialized instruments/equipment.
  • Monitor patient’s condition before, during, and following procedures.
  • Demonstrate working practices that include adherence to Infection Control standards and the safe use and operation of equipment.
  • Review concepts of Personal Healthcare Plan (PHP) with the veteran and encourage patient participation in the process.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as listed in the functional statement.

Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background and security investigation.
  • Must pass a pre‑employment physical examination.
  • Must participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program.
  • Driver’s license or state‑issued identification must be REAL‑.
  • Selective Service registration required for males born after December 31, 1959.
  • Must complete the online onboarding process.
  • Must provide acceptable forms of identification for pre‑employment requirements.
  • Must be willing to serve a 1‑ to 2‑year trial period during which fitness and continued employment are evaluated.

    Full time, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, Monday–Friday (alternate tour may be required).
