American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position working a weekend night shift schedule (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) with a minimum of 2 years of Cardiac Tele experience required.
Requirements
- Active RN license — NC or Compact license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
- Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry RN experience required — this is a hard stop requirement
- Cardiac Tele experience specifically required; PCU experience is not required
- Proficiency in IV starts, telemetry monitoring, cardiac drip management, and titration of cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem)
- Experience with pre/post cardiac cath, PCI, TR band management, and pacemaker/ICD patients
- Skills in dysrhythmia interpretation and management, central and peripheral line care, arterial line management, and blood product administration
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-acuity unit with frequent patient turnover
- Two professional supervisor/manager references from within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but required prior to start)
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Candidates living within 50 miles of the facility are accepted but are subject to a local pay rate
Responsibilities
- Cardiac Telemetry unit serving as the primary cardiac and stroke unit in a hospital setting
- Patient population includes stable pre/post care for pacemaker implantation, implanted cardioverter/defibrillators, cardiac catheterization, TR bands, unstable angina, low-risk chest pain evaluation, CHF, dysrhythmias, CVA, and TIA patients
- Unit also manages post-uncomplicated interventional peripheral vascular procedures and runs multiple cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone
- Unit currently houses COVID-positive patients; the high-acuity side manages patients on opti-flow and BiPAP during COVID surges
- Target patient ratio is 1:5–6; nurses must be comfortable managing up to 6 patients during surge
- High-volume unit with approximately 78–90 patient turnovers per week; nurses may turn over their full patient assignment within a single shift
- EMR system:
Epic (Dimensions);
Pyxis used for medication management; SBAR for communication — Epic experience preferred - Special equipment includes telemetry monitors, pulse oximetry, high-flow O2, non-rebreather masks, and BiPAP (chronic use only)
- Shift: 12-hour nights, 18:45–07:15, working weekends Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- On-call required; frequency depends on patient census
- Floating within and near the facility is required
- Contracts are available in 13–26 week lengths
- Self-scheduling applies within set guidelines, with leadership oversight to balance unit needs
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply, provided they have a minimum of 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry experience
- A team lead is available on the unit to assist with admissions and discharges
- Unit orientation is 36 hours; travelers must be available every day during the first week for hospital orientation
- Pre-start online modules are required (approximately 8–10 hours for acute care roles) and must be completed annually; modules are conducted via online learning, Zoom, webinar, and in-person classes
- No RTO is permitted during the first week of assignment due to orientation; up to 7 days of RTO may be pre-approved (excluding holidays); no additional RTO may be requested after signing
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional must wait 12 months before applying; prior employment must be disclosed and facility rehire approval is required
- Scrub colors: navy blue or white scrubs, or a mix of both;
Novant t-shirts are permitted; jackets must match uniform color and material (no fleece); no holed Crocs - Travel pairs are permitted but must be assigned to different units and have their own transportation
