DescriptionAmerican Traveler is hiring an experienced Cardiac Telemetry RN for a fast-paced primary cardiac and stroke unit requiring NC or compact RN license and prior cardiac tele experience.
Details- Cardiac Telemetry unit serving as the primary cardiac and stroke unit
- Night shift, 3x12 hours, 18:45-07:15
- Patient ratios of 1:5-6, subject to fluctuation based on unit needs
- High patient turnover, averaging 78-90 patients per week
- Team lead available to assist with admissions and discharges
- On-call requirement with frequency depending on patient census
- Floating required within or near the facility
- Every other weekend required, including 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays in a 6‑week period
- Self‑scheduling with leadership oversight; no block scheduling
- Uses Pyxis, EPIC (Dimensions), and SBAR communication
- Cares for stable pre/post pacemaker, ICD, cardiac catheterization, TR band, and uncomplicated peripheral vascular/cardiac intervention patients
- Manages patients with unstable angina, low risk chest pain, CHF, dysrhythmias, and new CVA/TIA
- Titrates cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone
- Unit currently houses COVID‑positive patients using opti‑flow and BiPAP
- Active NC or compact RN license (pending acceptable at submission)
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry experience required (hard stop requirement)
- First‑time travelers accepted with 2 years of Cardiac Tele experience
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, arterial line management, central and peripheral line care
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and rapid response/code teams required
- Experience with pacemakers, post cardiac angiogram, post MI, and pre/post cardiac cath/surgery required
- Comfortable managing multiple cardiac drips and taking up to 6 patients per assignment
- Fast‑paced unit with high patient turnover requiring adaptability
- 36‑hour unit orientation with mandatory attendance every day during week one
- Navy blue or white scrubs, or a mix of both, with Novant t‑shirts permitted; jackets must match uniform material and color; no crocs with holes allowed
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- RTO of 7 days or less may be auto‑approved (excluding holidays); no RTO allowed during first week; additional RTO requires facility approval and cannot be requested after signing
- Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required
- Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at the same travel rate
- Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
- Contract length of 20 weeks or longer considered, through the specified end date
- 36‑hour weekly schedules may be offered
