Job TitlePPM Material Handler Receiving Clerk – Salisbury, NC
Job SummaryA responsible materials management, operating‑level position. The individual will perform safe storage methods and procedures, maintain computer‑based inventory records, issue replacement spare parts, supplies and materials, process purchase requisitions, receipts, shipments, and material pre‑staging, and interact with vendors. The employee works within prescribed procedures with minimal supervision, following general instructions from an administrative superior. Performance is reviewed through observation and reports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist in the operation of warehouses and participate in receipt, storage, and issuance activities involving supplies, materials, equipment, and spare parts.
- Maintain assigned areas such as self‑service stores, lubricant storage, gas cylinder areas, steel yards, and other warehouse sections, ensuring proper stocking, adequate quantities, and general orderliness and cleanliness.
- Maintain perpetual inventory controls manually and with computer terminals.
- Purchase parts and materials and manage vendor relationships for a large division.
- Maintain an efficient reclamation program for return to inventory of usable items.
- Assist in controlling scrap, obsolete, and surplus material items.
- Update plant and property records as required.
- Use computer inventory software to record and report data accurately and timely.
- Perform lead responsibilities in major warehouse areas and work collaboratively with supervisors, co‑workers, city employees, and the public.
- Maintain inventory control using cycle counts and may assist in maintaining capital property record inventory.
- Be available 24/7 for emergency call‑outs and standby on an assigned basis; extended hours, shift work, and planned outages or storm‑related trouble may be required.
- Perform related work as required.
- High school diploma from an accredited school or equivalent.
- At least four years of experience in warehousing in a similar environment.
- Must be able to complete hiring paperwork electronically through Docu Sign.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a valid telephone.
- May be required to work overtime or alternate hours as necessary for efficient operation.
- Position may be designated as Mission Critical by the Department Director.
- Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must have sufficient strength and stamina to perform technical duties.
- Must navigate confined spaces, uneven areas, and heights with full range of motion.
- Must be able to climb ladders and maintain balance.
- Must respond adequately to alarms and other job‑related noises.
- Maintain visual acuity, depth perception, and color discrimination required for work at heights and on uneven surfaces.
- Safety/steel‑toe shoes are required.
