Responsibilities

As a Maintenance Technician, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting routine mechanical inspections and examinations of diesel trains to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Performing preventive maintenance tasks, including but not limited to refueling, cleaning, and lubrication.
  • Replacing and exchanging worn components to keep all systems functioning as intended.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, or escalating mechanical issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Executing detailed mechanical examinations using diagnostic tools and checklists.
  • Maintaining accurate records related to inspections, maintenance tasks, and repairs.
  • Collaborating with cross‑functional teams and contractors to address urgent maintenance needs.
  • Adhering to safety protocols and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and company policies.
  • Proactively suggesting areas for improvement to optimize maintenance routines.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following skills, experience, and attributes:

  • Technical Expertise:
    Proven experience in maintenance work, particularly with diesel trains, or a related field involving mechanical systems.
  • Education:

    A technical diploma or equivalent certification in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance, or related discipline (preferred).
  • Skills:

    Proficiency in examining and diagnosing mechanical components with a focus on safety and precision.
  • Experience:

    Hands‑on experience with refueling procedures and component replacement processes.
  • Communication:
    Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with high‑level contacts, including colleagues and contractors.
  • Teamwork:
    Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
  • Problem‑Solving:
    Analytical skills to identify issues and recommend or implement appropriate solutions.
  • Physical Stamina:
    Physical capability to perform labor‑intensive tasks in train maintenance.
  • Compliance Expertise:
    Familiarity with safety regulations and a commitment to upholding organizational safety standards.
Preferred
  • Experience working with diesel‑powered systems or transportation maintenance.
  • Familiarity with specialized diagnostic tools for mechanical inspections.
Day-to-Day
  • Beginning the shift with a team briefing to prioritise maintenance tasks and updates.
  • Conducting a comprehensive mechanical inspection of a diesel train, noting wear and tear or issues requiring action.
  • Refueling and cleaning trains to prepare them for operational shifts.
  • Utilizing tools and diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot identified issues.
  • Replacing defective components and ensuring that replacements meet operational standards.
  • Documenting work performed to keep accurate and updated logs for compliance purposes.
  • Coordinating with contractors for specialized tasks or large-scale repairs.
  • Taking part in safety drills or briefings to remain compliant with evolving regulations.
  • Collaborating with the team to identify operational efficiencies or suggest process improvements.
