Accounting Technician III – Department of Veterans Affairs
Full‑time position within the Supervisory Organization Sallisaw Veterans Center. Compensation: $18.36 USD per hour.
Job DescriptionResponsible for performing paraprofessional technical work involving the maintenance and reporting of financial accounting data. This includes:
- Maintaining appropriate accounts, ledgers, journals, registers, and other financial records.
- Reconciling various financial statements and documents.
- Processing transactions for payment of invoices or expense vouchers.
- Maintaining and processing payroll data.
- Preparing routine or standard reports concerning financial operations and data.
- Maintains accounting records including ledgers, journals, registers, and individual accounts; classifies and codes revenues and expenditures for entry into appropriate records.
- Reviews and reconciles financial transactions; examines invoices, expense vouchers and other source documents to verify obligations and post appropriate records.
- Prepares financial reports, statements and schedules of standard design.
- Maintains files of source documents and other information related to accounting activities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of the position and agency operations.
This is the specialist level of the account technician job family. Employees perform advanced technical accounting work and may have independent responsibility for maintaining all accounting records of a small fiscal unit or performing advanced specialized accounting tasks in a larger fiscal division.
Education and Experience- At least one year of clerical, bookkeeping, or technical accounting experience plus three additional years of technical accounting work; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Six semester hours in accounting or bookkeeping at an accredited college or university for each six months of the required experience; OR completion of a vocational training course in accounting for the one year of clerical experience.
- Knowledge of accounting procedures and terminology, business arithmetic, and modern office methods and procedures.
- Ability to use office equipment such as calculators, personal computers, keyboards, and copiers.
- Ability to maintain and report financial accounting data.
- Strong English language proficiency to perform essential functions.
