Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Secondary English Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Oklahoma Certification for area;
Must meet NCLB Requirements for Highly Qualified Teacher

REPORTS TO: Principal

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Clear Criminal History;
Temporary Contract for New Hire

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students using the local and state curriculum guide.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity levels and interests of students.
  • Guides a classroom learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with those goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting objectives.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Refers students suspected of having a learning disability to appropriate personnel in the district for the purpose to identify individual student needs.
  • Counsels with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing students and develops reasonable classroom procedures to maintain order in a fair and just manner.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers to achieve the best educational results and supervises their job performance.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as requested.
  • Enforces all rules governing the conduct of students as prescribed by the principal, superintendent, and Board Policy.
  • Strives to maintain hygienic conditions and practices in the classroom.
  • Reports to the principal any serious accident or illness affecting students in his or her charge.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the academic day when required or requested under reasonable terms.
  • Assists the school district to provide a safe, nurturing environment for students.
  • Assists the district to comply with HR1 (NCLB) requirements as specified by local, state, and federal mandates.
  • Performs such other duties as are assigned by the principal.

Also, to be able to speak fluently and be understood by those receiving instruction.
