Job DescriptionPOSITION TITLE: Upper (Grade 3-5)
LOCATION: Eastside Elementary
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in Assigned Subject(s) – Elementary Certification
REPORTS TO: Principal
Supervises: Assigned Paraprofessionals, Volunteers, and Students
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish and implement classroom procedures designed to maximize student learning in a conducive environment appropriate to the students’ maturity and interests.
- Prepare detailed, weekly written lesson plans consistent with Oklahoma Academic Standards, aligned to curriculum maps, and submit them to the principal on time.
- Comply with and fully implement all Individualized Education Plans and behavioral or academic interventions.
- Maintain a neat and orderly classroom, including physical arrangement, student records, and materials.
- Handle routine classroom discipline fairly.
- Assist administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct, develop reasonable classroom behavior rules, and maintain order honorably.
- Attend and participate in all required meetings and conferences, including professional development and planning meetings, and pursue professional growth.
- Maintain complete and accurate student records (attendance, performance, discipline).
- Provide professional and regular feedback to students and parents, ensuring compliance with all laws and district policies, and communicate regularly through notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
- Utilize professional behavior in all school‑related interactions.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws and board policies.
- Use formative and summative data to guide instruction, plan interventions, and communicate progress to parents.
- Provide individualized and small‑group instruction, adapting the curriculum as needed.
- Provide a technology‑enriched learning environment.
- Maintain availability to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day.
- Plan and coordinate teacher assistants, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and for field trips.
- Collaborate with other professionals to enrich and improve students' academic progress.
- Provide Distance Learning as necessary.
- Perform all other tasks as a supervisor may assign.
Essential Job Functions:
- Participate in curriculum review and design.
- Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies aligned with lesson objectives.
- Diagnose and evaluate student abilities and progress promptly and consistently.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Plan a program of study that meets each student’s individual needs, interests, and abilities.
- Create a conducive learning environment.
- Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide required progress reports.
- Refer students for alternative services offered by the District (ESL, Reading, Special Reading).
- Effectively implement district initiatives.
- Collaborate effectively with department and grade‑level teachers.
- Implement Distance Learning as warranted.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Abide by state statutes, school board policies, and regulations.
- Attend meetings and perform duties assigned by administrators or supervisors.
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and regulation.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Remain current on instructional practices and instructional technology.
Physical Demands: Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead, above the shoulder, and horizontally; repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp and operate equipment and demonstrate lessons; lift/move up to 25 pounds.
Regular Requirements: Visual perception (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, focus). Hearing and speaking adequate for information exchange.
