Job Summary
An Assembly Process Engineer ensures that assembly equipment, tools, and systems function efficiently, producing high‑quality parts while minimizing waste and downtime. They manage and improve assembly processes in manufacturing environments, ensuring products are assembled efficiently, meet quality standards, and are delivered on time. The role involves technical design, process improvement, and team coordination.
Key Responsibilities- Process Development & Optimization: Design, develop, and optimize assembly processes (washing, pressing, testing, etc.) to improve production efficiency, using Lean or Six Sigma techniques and documenting optimal machining and assembly processes for various materials, geometries, and volumes.
- Equipment Operation: Select appropriate tools, machinery, and automation systems; oversee the setup, maintenance, and calibration of assembly equipment; ensure safe and effective use of tools and machinery.
- Quality Control and Testing: Monitor machining and assembly quality, address defects, coordinate with QA teams, resolve issues by adjusting settings, and support root‑cause analysis.
- Troubleshooting: Provide technical support to the production team, offer solutions to improve uptime, and troubleshoot issues related to machinery, processes, or quality defects.
- Training & Mentorship: Train assembly operators and team members on new techniques, tooling, and process improvements; act as a technical resource for less experienced operators or technicians; coordinate with other engineering departments for smooth operations.
- Process Documentation & Standardization: Create and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, setup sheets, and PFMEA; ensure standardization of processes and implement lean manufacturing principles such as 5S and Six Sigma.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Collect and analyze data on machine performance, cycle times, and production efficiency; identify opportunities for improvement; stay up to date with new technologies, tools, and best practices.
- Strong understanding of mechanics, machine operations, and assembly systems.
- Basic CAD design skills for modifications.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Attention to detail for high precision and quality.
- Effective communication skills with team members and other departments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field (typically required).
- Additional certifications or training in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar.
- Relevant certifications or work experience may substitute for a formal degree.
